VHHS Students Vote for 2024-2025 Executive Officers

As the 2023-2024 school year ends, the Student Government Association (SGA) hosted executive board elections for the upcoming year. On March 19, current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors at Vestavia Hills High School voted for executive officers for the 2024-2025 upcoming school year.

During their second period class, teachers showed candidates' speeches. Then, students filled out ballots in their school email, which were open from 8AM to 8PM. The positions included: president, vice president, administrative vice president, director of publicity, director of spirit, chaplain, treasurer, director of student involvement, director of community involvement, and director of homecoming.

This year, our president was Virginia Eickholt. She played an important role in overseeing the student body and school as a whole. Alongside her was Eddy Pang who was vice president. These are the two positions that the student body sees a lot of as they often speak during pep rallies and assemblies. Anna Claire Black was the administrative vice president. As administrative vice president, she was in charge of all the SGA representatives and class officers.

You might be wondering, who runs the Instagram account for VHHS SGA? That would be the director of publicity! Kate Hurst was the director of publicity this year. She made all the student section and dress-up banners. The director of publicity works closely with the director of spirit as they coordinate banners together. Our director of spirit this year was Anne Douglas Nunnelly. In addition to working with the director of publicity, the director of spirit is in charge of all the game themes, giveaways, and spirit nights.

Now, you might be wondering who gives motivational speeches at the beginning of ceremonies and pep rallies. That would be the chaplain. This year’s chaplain was Madelyn Wigley. As chaplain, she focuses on inspiring and motivating students, teachers, and the audience. Additionally, she speaks during PTO meetings each month. Chase Kaiser was the treasurer for this school year. As treasurer, he was responsible for all of the financial transactions that were made through fundraisers, Libby’s Friends, and RISE. Treasurer usually helps with the Homecoming Kings as well. They also help make sure that the class representatives are selling all of their buttons, cookies, or whatever the fundraiser may be. Powderpuff also requires the help of the treasurer as there is a lot of money being managed through that.

When it comes to clubs, the director of student involvement is in charge of that. They also make sure that class representatives are reposting posts that the director of publicity creates on the SGA Instagram account. Overall, the director of student involvement focuses on getting everyone involved at school. This year, Sophie Williams was the director of student involvement. Similarly, the director of community involvement is responsible for getting our community involved. They usually reach out and communicate with the fall charity that SGA chooses. They are also in charge of the canned food drive. This year, Annemarie Merrill was the director of community involvement. Finally, there is also the director of Homecoming. Sydney Allen was in charge of planning the logistics behind Homecoming this year. They find venues and create the ideal night for students.

On March 22, president Virginia Eickholt announced the new executive officers for the upcoming year over the intercom during the end of sixth period. Here are the new executive officers for the 2024-2025 school year:
