Friday night. Senior Night. A nice September evening.
It’s 6:00 pm, and the student section is already buzzing with excitement as parents and players line up on the field in preparation for the Senior’s presentation. Football team members, cheerleaders, and training interns alike stand proud on the stage of a high school football rivalry.
Thompson lurks on the opposite side of the field, and tension stirs in the air as Vestavia awaits its challenge against the Thompson Warriors.
Under the lights of Thompson Reynolds Stadium, FNL is back.

The game started out well for the Rebels, with an early touchdown in the first quarter, followed by a field goal. With a 10-0 lead, the student section, with its islands of hot-pink senior girl clumps, was a jubilating sea of ocean blue. The Rebels; campaign to Tidal Wave Thompson seemed to be on track.
The hope of an unforeseen victory remained, but it seemed to be draining as Thompson fought back with a pair of rush and receiving touchdowns to set the score at 10-14. Vestavia landed their last offense with a touchdown before the end of the first half, keeping the score at 17-14.
Halftime provided this season’s first presentation of the Vestavia Band’s halftime performance. It was a brilliant composition including elevated stages, multiple solos, and even roller skating!
The game went downhill for the Rebels after the uplifting half. Thompson, seeking revenge, caught a pair of interceptions that led to touchdowns. Nonetheless, the Vestavia band, parents, teachers, and students continued to support the team through chants and spirit. Even during unfortunate circumstances, Vestavia’s population will always find a way to uplift the surroundings. A majority of viewers stayed until the end of the game, though Thompson’s 17-0 scoring run in the final quarter impacted the attitudes of many.
Even after the clock ran out, students stayed to find their friends on the field, congratulate seniors, and plan post-game fast food runs. The supporters lingered to enjoy a last home game before three weeks of breaks and away games. The rebels will make their return to Thompson Reynolds on October 18th for the Homecoming game against T-County.
After this upcoming week’s break, Vestavia returns to the FNL stage with an away game vs. Prattville.
Our next dress-up themes will be Enlighten the Lions (Seniors), Outfrat the Prat (Juniors), Parent the Patriots (Sophomores), and Pirate Prattville (Band). The game theme is Prepout Prattville!
Go Rebels always!
