This year’s talent show was sponsored by Mrs. Gwarjanski and hosted by the SGA. Margaret Smith and Jennifer Holley from the Alabama Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation came to watch all of the performances. The show’s special guest was Mary Chandler Brewer, a 2nd grader from Dolly Ridge Elementary. Mary Chandler Brewer lives with the challenges of Cystic Fibrosis. She thanked everyone for their support and even shouted, “Go Rebels!”

Andrew Szymela opened up the show by playing “Runaway” by Kanye West on the piano. He played alongside a compilation video of different movies such as Top Gun, Toy Story, and Avengers: Endgame, matching each note and chord with the scenes from his video.

Next, Samantha Snoddy came on stage and performed “Speechless” by Naomi Scott from the 2019 movie Aladdin. Samantha put on a wonderful performance with such a beautiful song.

Ebrahim Bazeddi walked onto the stage full of charisma. He captivated the crowd with his impressive skills as he rapped “Not Afraid” by Eminem.

With two guitars and one singer, girl group Down by Three performed Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend.” The girls embodied pop punk of the early 2000s in their performance.

Drew Hicks then demonstrated his talent with his juggling abilities. Though he began only juggling three balls, he quickly took out a bowling pin, an apple, and a ball and began juggling those instead. Drew did tricks in which he tossed one of the objects under his leg while continuing to juggle. He even ate the apple while juggling all three objects.

Then, Abby Merriman sang “Daydream” by Lily Meola. Lily Meola sang this original song on America’s Got Talent and received the golden buzzer from Heidi Klum. Abby did a beautiful job covering this song.

Jalen Oliver encouraged the audience to sing along as he performed “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John. After seeing many of Jalen’s performances in the school’s theatre productions, it was quite exciting to see him sing again on stage at the talent show.

With the track “All of the Lights” playing, Charlie Saunders performed a yo-yo act. He preformed many challenging acts that made the crowd go wild.

The Strangers were the last act of the talent show. The members of the band include Mary Hogan Glenn, Dakota McGrew, Colton Smith, Ben Spooner, and Emily Watson. They performed “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley. Mary Hogan and Dakota sang and harmonized together. Colton Smith played the drums, Ben Spooner played the electric guitar, and Emily Watson played the keyboard.

We would like to say thank you to the theatre staff who helped put on the talent show: Robert Colvin, Emma Fannin, Henry Jackson, Michael Loftink, Emma Mitchell, Hannah Beth Smith, Bella Tripplett, and Maddie Harper. The show would not have been a success without them! Thank you to SGA members Campbell Brown, Virginia Eickholt, Caroline Hawkins, Fred Nelson, Emma Nunnelley, Mary Raynor Phifer, Camden Preskitt, Abigail Taylor, Lynley Threadcraft, and Lotte Wambsganss for emceeing the talent show!
