Vestavia Prepares to Beat Spain Park at Pep Rally

Football season is in full swing, and the Rebels are soaking up every second. The Rebel fans pack the stands every week to support our football team, and the boys have been killing it this year. Friday night lights bring loads of other excitement into the hills, such as fun dress-up days, homecoming, and, most importantly, pep rallies! One of our most recent pep rallies was the Spain Park pep rally! Although the freshmen could not attend, the rest of the Rebels were fired up and ready to beat Spain Park. Dress-up themes for the Spain Park pep rally included: Seniors dressing up as nerds, Juniors dressing up in pajamas, Sophomores dressing up as Adam Sandler, Freshman dressing up in jerseys, and the band dressing up in Halloween attire. One of the main highlights of the Spain Park pep rally was the announcement of Mr. and Mrs. Vestavia's nominees! Mr. and Mrs. Vestavia is an exceptional Vestavia tradition. Each year, the Vestavia Hills High School faculty nominates a handful of senior Vestavia students who deserve this coveted position. This year's nominees for Mrs. Vestavia were Prudence Wachira, Olivia Plant, Mary Grace Butler, Evan Reese Lyas, Claire Willoughby, Libby Woodham, and Annemarie Merrill. The Mr. Vestavia nominees were Hunter Carroll, Charlie Ingram, Sam Curfman, Eddy Pang, Tucker Meek, and Woodson Moss. In the following weeks, the senior class votes on who they think deserves this title the most. Another highlight of the pep rally was the announcement of the Special Olympics. The Special Olympics is another event that is treasured by Vestavia Hills. The Special Olympics is a yearly event that tackles the stigma and injustice that people with intellectual disabilities face. At the Spain Park pep rally, we cheered on the Rebels scheduled to participate in the Special Olympics the following week! The Rebelettes and the cheerleaders blew us away with their impressive performances, and the SGA held a potato sack race. Additionally, the spirit stick is another valued possession of the Vestavia Rebels. During each pep rally, the freshman, sophomores, juniors, seniors, and band all fight to win the spirit stick, which is given to the grade that displays the most positivity, excitement, and school spirit. The band was awarded the spirit stick at the Spain Park pep rally! Football season is off to a great start, and with Homecoming right around the corner, the Rebels are in for a great season!
