Vestavia Hills Rebels Overwhelm Spain Park Jaguars on the Football Field

The Vestavia Hills football team boosts its playoff chances with an astounding 36-7 win over Spain Park, leading the team into their second win this season. An injury on the Spain Park side initiated a gloomy start to the game, but spirits quickly escalated as the match continued. The Rebels maintained a lead the entire game, letting through only a single touchdown from the Jaguars before their final victory.
John Paul Head, quarterback, returned to the team after skipping the last game against the Hoover Bucs. Despite suffering a concussion earlier in the season, he led the team to almost 400 total yards, 123 passing yards, and 271 rushing yards, beating Spain Park’s 300 total yards. This win was an impactful rebound for the Rebels, who suffered two losses earlier this season, raising hopes for many victories in the future. The football team plays Chelsea on September 30 at home for Vestavia’s Homecoming football game. Vestavia students arrived in packs to the Spain Park stadium in support of the football team. This game’s dress-up theme was neon.

"Basically, Coach Evans describes me as a running back who happens to be able to throw a football. It’s hard to do, but it was a little bit more explosive tonight.” -John Paul Head

The Vestavia Hills Rebel Marching Band performed alongside the Vestavia Hills
Majorettes, Rockettes and Color Guard during this year’s halftime show: “The Caroline Experiment,” featuring references to Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” as well as numerous other songs. This year, the show features an LED showcase in the beginning and middle of the performance, with instrumentalists wearing flashing wristbands and the Majorettes using LED batons. Spain Park’s marching band featured a show inspired by elements of retro rock music, including components from the band Aerosmith. The band will revisit Spain Park on September 27 for the Marching Band Exhibition.
