Thompson Pep Rally

The pep rallies at VHHS are always fun and engaging events that bring the whole school together from the occasional freshman appearances to the band. The school comes together to show off their school spirit. During the Thompson pep rally on Friday, September 20, seniors were allowed to follow the longstanding tradition of Toga Day while everyone participated in the spirit stick competition. As always, students dressed up in their grades' themes for the event: freshmen were invited to the pep rally, sophomores wore their creative twin outfits, juniors went in their white-out fits, seniors wore their vibrant togas, and the band dawned their creative tin foil costumes.

There were multiple performances from the different dance teams that VHHS has to offer. These performances allowed students to cheer on their friends as the dancers showcased their routines, which brought up the school spirit and the anticipation for the game later that night. The gym was lively with everyone cheering, clapping, and praising the dance team until the band joined in and played several school songs with the cheerleaders leading the student body in fight songs.

A special highlight of the pep rally was the appearance of representatives from Equip, a nonprofit organization Rebels will raise money for as their fall fundraiser. Equip is an organization whose mission is to support adults with disabilities by helping them develop skills to promote job readiness, improve social skills, and help with independent living. Two members of Equip came and offered good luck on wrecking the Warriors in the game against Thompson later that night. This inspired students to come out to the game against Thompson High School and donate to get involved in the fall fundraiser.

A crowd favorite of the pep rally was the Wubble Bubble Ball Tournament which added a competitive element to the event. Students from each respective grade level 9th-12th and the band were chosen to participate in a match in the middle of the gym. The final round was between the juniors and seniors. In the end, it resulted in a senior victory over the junior class.

Finally, one of the most-anticipated events throughout the pep rally- the spirit stick competition. Each grade screamed, cheered, and made noise in hopes of winning the prized spirit stick resulting in another senior victory. The seniors stormed to the center of the gym to celebrate their massive win as the Alma Mater played and brought all of the students together. As students were dismissed to return to their classes “FE!N” by Travis Scott was blasted over the speakers leaving the students looking forward to the football game later that night.
