Things to do over Thanksgiving Break

**The media below contains the opinion of an individual student and therefore does not represent or speak to the values of Vestavia Hills High School and Vestavia Hills City Schools**

Thanksgiving break is just a week away, are you going out of town for the break? If not and you have some free time you need to fill, this article is for you! I made a list of some things you can either do in the Birmingham area or while at home over the break.

  1.  Watch Thanksgiving Movies and TV Episodes

While Thanksgiving is one of the lesser talked about holidays in the media, there are still a few movies and TV specials that you can watch! A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is one of the most popular Thanksgiving movies, while Friends, Gilmore Girls, Modern Family, The Office, and many other well-known shows have at least one Thanksgiving episode.

  1. Host a Friendsgiving

Spending quality time with friends is always a good choice, and hosting a Friendsgiving is the perfect excuse for that. Friendsgiving is essentially just the typical Thanksgiving dinner and get-together, except for the fact that only your friends attend. A Friendsgiving almost guarantees that everyone will get along with each other, and each person can pitch in to the dinner.

  1. Work on a Christmas List

Making a Christmas list is essentially every kid's favorite activity from elementary school to high school, and we are almost a month away from Christmas break! Due to that, it is the perfect time to work on your Christmas list while you have plenty of time to really think about what you would like to get. In addition, it is the perfect time to start planning Christmas gifts for others if you do that, especially since Black Friday is right after Thanksgiving.

  1. Bake!

Not everyone enjoys baking, but if you do or have an interest in starting, now is the perfect time to do so! There are plenty of Thanksgiving recipes to try like an apple pie, pumpkin Bundt cake, pecan pie, or even an apple cobbler. Since the break is a full week, you have the perfect amount of time to experiment and try new recipes.

  1. Visit a Museum

While visiting a museum is not on most people's lists of things to do over a weeklong break, it is a great way to spend multiple hours and also learn something new while you are at it. Alabama has many great museums, my personal favorite to visit is the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum. If you are not interested in a motorsports museum, I would recommend looking at the Birmingham Museum of Art, Vulcan Park and Museum, and the Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark Museum. Alabama has a wide variety of great museums but these are just a few of the most well-known ones that are all near the Birmingham area.

Overall, if you currently have some free time in your plans throughout the break, I would completely recommend doing some of these things to pass the time and make your Thanksgiving break even more enjoyable!
