The Secret Honor Society

At the upcoming graduation ceremony, you may notice a few students sporting light pink honor cords. This adornment signifies the members of Tri-M Music Honor Society. Membership into this honor society is not simply given to students who participated in music classes. Instead, membership is granted to loyal members of Music Performers Club–a hidden gem at the high school.

The pandemic’s peak during the ‘20-’21 school year hindered the club’s opportunities, and thus MPC functioned as more or less of a club study over the following years. However, Music Performers Club is back in action.

Without fail, each club meeting is accompanied by the sounds of various instruments. Students can be seen practicing for their youth orchestra performances, for their auditions into the Million Dollar Band, or just for their own enjoyment. This year, the club even organized a holiday party, complete with food, Kahoots, and prizes. MPC is what you make of it. Students are allowed to relax, hang out with friends, or complete some last-minute homework during club meetings. With eligibility into the honor society starting at just two years of being in MPC, this option should be a no-brainer for many students unsure of which club to join.

Currently, Music Performers Club only has a dozen members. While the low member count does add to the elusive pink honor cord’s rarity, more students should be taking advantage of this club.

Laura Matthews appreciates how the club “let’s us be in Music Honor Society. We don't really do too much, and it’s not too big of a commitment. We also sometimes have parties with food and drinks.”

Catey Rose Callahan reveals “that my older siblings always told me that this is a great club and that I should join it. I really appreciate being with my friends and this club is such a close community.”

Music Perfomers Club hopes to grow its membership in future years and foster an even stronger community.
