This week the Vestavia Choral Department attended the State Choral Performance Assessment, or SCPA. At SCPA, each choir performs two songs of differing styles by memory and are scored by three judges. Below is a list of the songs each Vestavia Choir performed. Next, choirs head to sight reading, during which students sing a short arrangement they have never seen before, showcasing their ability to read music. They also have the opportunity to listen to wonderful choirs from around the state!
Many factors go into scoring, such as tone, diction, pitch and rhythm accuracy, discipline, and many more. Each score has a description as well as a number. The number scores range from I - IV, or from Superior to Fair. The hard work of the Vestavia Choir program paid off, with the Tenor-Bass Choir and Acafellas scoring an Overall Superior, and every other choir scoring All Superiors. Congratulations!
We are so proud of our choral students and cannot wait to see more of their hard work!
