Rebels Claim Victory Over Oak Mountain

On the evening of Friday, October 14th, the Vestavia Hills Varsity Football team traveled out to Herdmont Stadium to face off against the Oak Mountain Eagles. The blackout theme of the Rebels student section clashed against the whiteout from the Eagles as the two teams battled out the game on the field. Within the first three minutes of the game, Vestavia had quickly progressed down the field to score a touchdown, then at the end of the quarter they scored again. The momentum helped the Rebels fend off their adversaries from reaching the end zone to finish the first quarter 14-0.

Again, with the start of the second quarter, Vestavia kept up the pressure by scoring within the first minute. Another second-quarter touchdown halfway through the quarter had the Vestavia student section exploding with energy at the 28-0 score. With one minute left in the half, Oak Mountain finally managed to approach their end zone and score to reach the halftime score of 28-7.

The two teams exited the field during halftime to make room for the Rebel Marching Band and the Spirit of Cahaba Marching Band. The two spectacular performances captivated the attention of most onlookers, with a few exiting the stands in search of food and drinks from the food trucks and concession stand stationed near the stands. After the short intermission, the two football teams returned to the field to continue the second half of their face-off.

During the third quarter, both Vestavia and Oak Mountain scored a singular touchdown to bring the score to 35-14. Rebel fans continued to cheer on their team, ecstatic over maintaining the significant lead over Oak Mountain. The temperatures also began to drop, and the chilly environment caused many to pull out sweatshirts to make watching the game more comfortable.

The game progressed into the fourth quarter, with neither team scoring until Oak Mountain racked up another touchdown with eight minutes left in the game, bringing the score to 35-21. But the Rebels were not to be discouraged—the team progressed down the field successfully one final time for the game to close out the score 42-21, sealing in a decisive victory for the elated Rebels and their fans.
