Le Cercle Français

Do you love French culture? Are you learning the French language? Perhaps you just enjoy the sound of a French accent.

Whatever the case, Vestavia Hills High School French Club is perfect for any student with an interest in French culture and language. Sponsored by Madame Harlan, the Vestavia Hills High School Main Campus French Club discusses topics relating to Francophone cultural activities such as music, movies, food, and games. In the French Club, the students organize the activities and plan out events for members to take part in. The French Club welcomes all students currently enrolled in a French class and students who have previously taken a French class before.

Leading the Vestavia Hills High School Main Campus French Club this year is President Rosie Bolton. Rosie is a senior, and this is her second year in the French Club. She has been taking French for six years but originally began speaking French at the age of nine. The French Club Vice President is Jackson Tarorick. He is also a senior this year. The Chefs de Cuisine are Sophie Estrada and Grey Seymour. Sophie and Grey are both seniors this year and are looking forward to providing authentic French food for club meetings.

This year’s goals for the French Club include speaking the French language and having fun by learning about French culture. The French Club members also hope to play Pétanque, capture the baguette, and Taboo.

Kate Rhodes, one of this year’s French Club members at the main campus, says that she joined the French Club because she “wanted to make connections and meet other French speakers in our school.”

Vestavia Hills High School Freshman Campus also has a French Club separate from the main campus French Club. The sponsor of the freshman campus French Club is Madame Dupre. Serving as president of the Freshman Campus French Club is Hannah LeNoir. The vice-president is Sophia Li. The secretary is Luke Harper, and the treasurer is Hoke Linsey. Hannah LeNoir says that as president of the freshman campus French Club she “would like to promote a fun and encouraging environment for French learners to grow our knowledge of the French language and culture.”

Overall, the French Club strives to create a fun and enjoyable environment for all members. If learning about French culture and language sounds interesting or exciting to you, consider joining the French Club or signing up for a French class next year!
