It’s That Time of Year: Senior College Decisions

Updated: Apr 29

Graduation is fast approaching! A major topic among the senior class is college. Where we’re all going, and why we chose that school. Who is taking a gap year, and who is going to trade school. Many questions come up this time of year. I was able to speak with a few senior friends of mine about their choices for the future.

First I spoke with Emma Kimbrel, who will be attending Paul Mitchell The School to pursue cosmetology. When I asked her why she decided to stay so close to home, she told me that she was “happy to stay here with her family” and to be close to several of her friends who won’t be far either. She said that she has always “felt like a career in cosmetology was something she was meant to do”. As a little girl, Emma was the first one to start the braid train on the playground and loved to do her makeup and experiment (and she still does). Emma is beyond ecstatic about her decision and I can’t wait to see what great things she does.

Tommy Henry is taking a different path. He will be attending Samford University next year, where he will study interior design. Tommy told me that he wanted to study interior design because he had “always wanted to do something with design” and he felt that interior design was the best path for him to take in the field. Tommy said that he chose Samford because his parents went there, so he was familiar with it, and “it’s close to [his] friends who will also be close by”. Tommy was also awarded a scholarship by the university, so he will have financial assistance as well.

I will be attending Western Kentucky University, and I will be pursuing a major in journalism and a minor in Political Science. I chose WKU for many reasons, but the biggest one is that my Dad is an alumni, so I am very familiar with the campus and the area around it. I am very excited to be a part of the journalism program and the student publications.

No matter what you decide to do with your future, know that you will be successful and do great things. Congratulations to all of the seniors for all of your college acceptances and I’m very excited to see what great things we all accomplish.
