AP with WE Service’s Fall Toys for Tots Drive is in full swing! After weeks of preparation, we’ve kicked off the drive and are ready to receive donations. Our AP US History juniors are aiming to top last year’s amazing achievements, and we’re already making progress toward our goals!
Some of our members recently set up booths at several events, including the Wrestling Kickoff and Deck the Heights on November 12, and received several monetary donations thanks to their efforts. A huge thank you to everyone who showed up and donated! Each contribution goes directly to Toys for Tots, ensuring that every child across the country receives a gift this holiday season.
If you weren’t able to make it to previous events, there are still many more opportunities to contribute! Here are some upcoming Vestavia Hills community events that WE Service will be accepting donations at.
VHHS Fall Play – Nov. 17-19
Christmas Tree Lighting – Nov. 29
Basketball Game vs. Homewood – Dec. 2
VHHS Math Team Tournament – Dec. 3
Celebrate the Season – Dec. 6
Once again, all types of donations are greatly appreciated. In addition to cash and check donations, WE Service is accepting unused, brand-new toys and either new or gently-used books as well.
In case you can’t make it to any of these events, WE Service students will also be hosting a VHHS school-wide class competition during lunch periods! Anyone in grades 9-12 can participate by bringing cash or check donations to their lunch period any day from Nov. 28 to Dec. 2. The winning class receives a spirit trophy for their contributions. If you have any brand new toys that you’d like to donate instead, please bring them to Mrs. Maddox’s room (E251) anytime this November. We will also be accepting them at boxes set up in the lobbies of both the middle and high schools during the week of November 28.
Additionally, we will be hosting our annual book drive this spring. These books will be given to children living in communities in areas of the Black Belt, which is a region in Alabama known for its economic hardships. We’re looking forward to building on last year’s successes by contributing even more books this year! No specific events for the book drive have been confirmed yet, but again, if you own books that you can’t wait to donate, you can always bring them to any of the toy drive events listed above.
In other news, students have also created a WE Service Instagram account—follow @weservice.apush for updates on upcoming events, announcements, and recent achievements!
Stay on the lookout for more updates on our Fall Toy Drive, and please spread the word!
