Clay-Chalkville Game

After their final regular season game, the Rebels have ended one of their hardest seasons with a 5-5 record.

This past week the Rebels took on Clay-Chalkville (8-2), defeating them 28-14. This was the last home game for the Rebels this season. They finish their regular season with a .500 record.

The Rebels had a 7-0 lead in the first half thanks to their quarterback Charlie Taaffe. He ran in a 2-yard touchdown in the first half. Fighting hard, the Rebels never relinquished this lead to the Cougars. In the second quarter, senior Bruce Littleton’s 25-yard touchdown run put the Rebels in a larger lead. The Cougars responded with a 64-yard drive, ending with a 2-yard touchdown by Aaron Osley. Early in the third quarter, Charlie Taaffe found Bruce Littleton once again for a 33-yard touchdown, putting the Rebels up 21-7. Later, Charlie Taaffe found Bruce Littleton for a third time for a 34-yard touchdown bringing the score to 28-7. The Cougars scored one final time when Joshua Woods found the endzone in the fourth quarter.

For Vestavia Hills, Taaffe finished with 16-of-22 for 238 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed 13 times in this game for 85 yards and one touchdown. Littleton rushed five times in this game for 55 yards and a touchdown on eleven carries. He was the Rebels leading receiver for this match with six catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Luke Stubbs was also a significant player in the passing game this week with seven passes for 99 yards. Lastly, Noah Boylan rushed a total of eight times for 44 rushing yards.

For Clay-Chalkville, Aaron Frye, their quarterback, went 17-of-26 for 151 yards. Aaron Osley had a great night rushing the ball, for 107 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries. Woods rushed five times for 55 yards and a touchdown. Marlon Compton led the Cougars receivers with four catches for 68 yards, only a little more than Jacari Johnson, who got 66 yards with five catches.

The Cougars have lost two out of three of their last games but will be in the 6A playoffs, beginning next week at home against Gadsden City (6-3). Vestavia Hills will make the long trip to Montgomery Mary (9-1) in the first round of the 7A playoffs. However, Montgomery Mary lost their first and only game in late August against Pace in an overtime game. Don’t forget to wish your Rebels good luck as they exit the regular season and enter into playoffs!
