2023 Fall Choir Concert

The fall choir concert this year was absolutely spectacular! Having been in choir my sophomore and freshman years, it made me so happy to hear how well everyone is doing. The direction from Mr. Burns and Mr. Stricklin was amazing. They both do a wonderful job with all of the many choirs that we have at VHHS. The concert included 7 choirs. The show started with the 9th grade Treble Choir composed of freshman girls. The next choir was the 9th grade Tenor-Bass Choir and Acafellas. Next was Voces, followed by Singers and then Ensemble. The final two groups were Honor Choir and Just Singin’.

The 9th grade choirs and the Acafellas were both splendid. The 9th grade choir sang two songs entitled One Song by Darla Eshelman and The Rose arr. Julie Knowles. Both songs were great selections. The voices of the ninth graders were very mature for their age and they sounded wonderful. The boys were one of my favorites. They look like they enjoy themselves so much when they are up on the stage. They also sang two songs called Barb’ry Allen arr. Joshua Shank and Keep a-Going by Paul David Thomas. They sounded great singing these songs and they were a joy to watch. Patrick Hnderson was the soloist in the second song and he sang beautifully and brought the energy up so much.

The next two groups were Voces and Singers. Voces sang two songs: Hey, Ho Nobody’s Home arr. Greg Gilpin and Cantate Domino by Nancy Hill Cobb. Both songs were perfect for this group. They really looked like they were enjoying what they were singing. They had great facials and had fun on the stage. Singers or the show choir had great selections as well. They sang Sing me to Heaven by Daniel Gawthorpe and Finding Wonderland arr. Jeremy Alfera. Both of these songs were absolutely beautiful. I almost felt like I was levitating during them. The soloist for the second selection was a long-time friend of mine, Libby Woodham. Libby, who will deny it if you tell her, has the voice of an angel and sings beautifully. She has since we were kids.

Ensemble and Honor choir were the next two groups. Ensemble performed a beautiful piece called Things That Never Die by Eleanor Daley and Jordan’s Angels by Rollo Dilworth. These singers were skilled and had worked very hard to perfect their craft. This was a very talented group of singers and their performance showed that. The Honor Choir was also a very talented group. They sang two pieces called Weep O Mine Eyes by John Bennett and Lunar Lullaby by Jacob Narverud. This choir also had great facials and really looked like they were having fun up on the stage.

Lastly, Just Singin’—my favorite group. These singers are the best of the best and they are amazing. Their first song was I Need Your Love by Ellie Goulding with the extremely talented Emily Watson as the soloist. This group being last really gave the concert a fun edge. The pop songs really made a difference. The next song was Go the Distance from the Disney movie Hercules. The soloists for this song were Jake Norris and Loftin Sheppard. Both sang wonderfully and are very talented singers. The group really got into the song and made the audience feel something. Their final selection was Believer by Imagine Dragons. The soloists were Libby Woodham and Joi Cook. Libby sang beautifully as ever and Joi has talent beyond words. She is such a powerhouse and has a strong voice. Just Singin’ was the perfect group to conclude the concert with.
