Contempo is a choir festival held at Vestavia Hills High School every year. Since it takes place right before the beginning of show choir season, it is the perfect place for schools to run their show before competitions start!
This year, Vestavia hosted twelve show choir and acapella groups from nine different middle schools and high schools located around the state. The University of Alabama acapella group "Tune In" and their show choir "Resonance" were also in attendance, as well as the Auburn University Singers.
Contempo is a big part of the Vestavia choir program. Every member of the four audition choirs and their parents are required to volunteer for a shift to help the festival run as smoothly as possible. From admissions to concessions to hospitality, choir volunteers make sure everyone has an enjoyable experience! All proceeds from Contempo directly fund the Vestavia choir program.
On Friday, January 13, many of the acapella groups performed, including Vestavia’s Just Singin’! The next day, Saturday, January 14, was a full day of show choir. With themes ranging from The Magic School Bus to Beauty and the Beast, fun doesn’t even begin to describe it! The last high school group to perform was Vestavia’s Singers with their show themed around The Bachelor. The show is absolutely wonderful and the choir would love for you to come support them at one of the three competitions they have this year.
Thank you to Mr. Stricklin and Mr. Burns for a fun, choir-filled weekend, and thank you to all of the students and parents who came out to support the arts!
